Pitfalls in China Below are some of
common pitfalls when dealing with suppliers in China.Miscommunication In some instances language and cultural barriers gets in the way of a supplier and thus misunderstanding regarding customer requirements occurs. This results into delivering an excellent non-conforming product. Hiding the problem In China face or a person’s name is a very important aspect of the culture. Sometimes people will hide or avoid raising a problem in order to save their own face. Obviously the problem does not remain hidden and only comes back later to damage the customer-supplier relationship. Cutting corners The vendors or people that work for the vendors have a “Cha bu duo” mentality. “Cha bu duo” means close enough in Chinese. Specifications are not met and the supplier fails to deliver on the details. It is the 99% mindset. The 99% mindset can often result into a 100% rejection of goods. Lack of standards Some companies lack the quality system or standards to consistently deliver high quality. Inappropriate raw materials are often used. This is a serious management problem and the vendor is usually beyond help. Outright bad Then there are also vendors that are on a mission to take advantage of unsuspecting clients.
